Open Question: Questions on website hosting and such?

I've recently learned HTML and CSS, and I'm working on learning JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL. Eventually, I'm planning on creating my own website, but before I do I had some questions regarding hosting and where the HTML files will go. First of all, if I purchase a domain name through GoDaddy.com and I get hosting along with it, how can I upload the HTML, CSS, PHP, media, etc files onto their server so that it would appear on the web? If I find a better hosting solution than GoDaddy, how do I transfer to that hosting service, and why do I have to renew my domain every two years or whatever? Second, how do I make it so that when people go to http://www.mydomain.com/ they are shown the main page of my website without seeing a URL like http://www.mydomain.com/mainpage.html? Third, if I plan on creating a mobile version of my site or a different language version of it, how do I set it up so that visitors will go to something like http://m.mydomain.com/ or http://es.mydomain.com/? I'm not asking how to redirect them to that site, just how to actually create that version of the site. Thanks in advance for any help. more

Hello! I have a web page, but I am not a programmer. My programmer is seriously sick right now, so I have to speed things up. I have a poll page, which uploads a poll once a day. Well - a lot of polls. In 10 categories and 16 subcategories. What I need? I need a solution , how can I make a file (preferably an excel file) , where I write down these polls in fields and upload it on the server. When the file is uploaded , it automatically distributes polls by categories through the manual upload form (there is also a manual form of upload, but it sucks to fill a poll every single time. I better relax - drink some tea and fill a whole file with some 100 polls) But it is only the unvisible side. Later, when these polls ar upladed, they need to be shown at the same and right time in the right place (category) as they were browsed in from Excel file through the manual upload form. So - basically I need -> Excel form (100 polls) ---> Automatically fills the manual form 100 times ---> Later posts those polls, when required on visible web-site, while some 1000 polls ar invisible and in queue Or is there any software? I just got this game, and after doing a little research I quickly found theres no way to LAN this game. And apparently the servers are down as well, not that I would pay for it... Everyone, everywhere says theres no LAN patch for the game... But I find this extremely hard to believe, its a very popular game apparently, and a pretty good one. Meaning a lot of gamers play it. And where ever a lot of gamers are, are a lot of hackers and programmers. Thus there are a lot of hacks, patches, fixes, to add just about anything to every game. I mean, they made Oblivion multiplayer, and thats not even a multipayer game. So someone had to have made this work... Basically Im asking if anyone knows if a LAN patch for the game, or knows how to alter the game to connect to a private server... Like Hamachi or something. Someone has figured it out, and just isnt speaking up on the internet, lol... I have two computers, side by side, both with the game... How do I get them to play together? more

Have they finally upgraded to WotLK or are they at still at 2.??Oh, and how do I set the realmlist again so that it goes to Scape gaming? I was working at Sonny's BBQ until July 3, 2009 for 5 years. I was fired because I had a customer walk out and not pay their bill. It's the customers responsibilty to pay their own ticket through the cashier as they leave. We do not take payments at the table. I gave them their check and they just walked out. Open Question: why does my laptop have such poor performance?

I have a Dell Latitude D505. When i got it, it was previously used for a friends moms working purposes..it was a rather fast computer, i ran World of Warcraft, Conquer Online (and its many private servers), Cabal Online, Perfect World, Knight Online, ect. All while running multiple internet windows, aim, msn sometimes..i never had problems, and as you can see i was using alot of ram. Well recently the HD died on me rather abrutply, it was a 60gig 7200 travelstar. When i took it to the guy who gave it to me he said there was a dormant virus on it and thats what killed the HD. So i later bought a new one (80gig seagate i think, 5400) and installed windows on it, completely clean HD. Heres the problems; Everytime i open My Documents it hangs for about a full minute and a half and i cant do anything but wait for it. When i open my IE browser it takes about 2 minutes to load..then it hangs on every page no matter how big or small it is. Video is always laggy even if its 15 seconds long..it lags as if im running 50 programs all at once. Most importantly i cant run ANY games at all...not even conquer online and thats the smallest game ive ever run. I just wanna know why and maybe how i can fix it =/ Anything is greatly appreciated.Processor: intel pentium M, 1.60GHz (under that it says 1.59GHz idk why..) 1 gig of ram. Also i cant find any settings to change the hard drive to udma, i acually dont even know if its in pio or not i cant find anything about it. :x And ive checked my laptop for virus's with 2 diff programs, i have an avast and COMODO firewall up at all times. more

Open Question: How can I delete everything on my computer?

Windows is beyond recovery, so I've decided to nuke my computer and start fresh. I've already saved all of my important files, bookmarks, and the names and versions of my favorite programs to an external HDD. I tried to just reinstall Windows, but after an entire day of waiting, the installation hasn't made any progress. It never asks me if I want to reformat anything. I get to the point that it starts preparing installation, which is says will take fifty-one minutes, but it never moves past that step. The computer in question is currently unable to connect to the internet, so I can't download Disk Kill or anything. I've tried to reformat with the Disk Manager in Administrative Tools, but whenever I click on "Disk Management" a error window pops up saying, "The RPC server is unavailable".Christopher H, I tried that... it said that the volume was in use, and asked if I wanted to force a dismount. I said yes, and it said that it was unable to do it, because the volume was still in use.Wireless..., it asks me where I want to copy the information stored in the folder i386 on the disc to, and the default is C:\Windows... but that's it. No option to reformat or anything, when I hit Okay it goes to the installation prep, and I no longer have control over it. more

Open Question: How do I access the DVD drive of another computer in my network?

This was my previously asked question: "I have tried to access a computer game called "The Sims 3" on one of my computers which does not have a DVD drive (The game is a DVD Rom). On my other computer, which Does have a DVD drive, I have already downloaded the game. I have been told that I should be able to access a CD/DVD on that computer from another, but I can't seem to be able to. I do have a firewall for my wireless network, but I have set it to have all exceptions. I turned it off, too, for a while to see if that worked, which didn't. On the firewall settings window it says that I do allow access to the drive, but whenever I click on the file that I have designated as "DeskDVD on Desktop" a message pops up that reads: "(name) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network source. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied." I restored the default settings for my firewall, and when I turned it off that last part didn't say "Access is denied" it said something about the pathway not being able to be found or something. I have since put all the settings back the way they were, allowing all exceptions that are possible, and it still, even when the firewall is turned off, says that I do not have permission. How can I make it so I can access the DVD Rom of the Sims 3 and download it to the second computer?" And the only answer i got was this: "On the computer with the DVD drive you should create a folder in your shared folder and dump the contents of the dvd there. On the other computer you should be able to easily find the shared folder and copy this to your computer and install. Also, both computers need to be named the same workgroup in the network settings. Control Panel > System > Computer name tab (In windows XP) (use help feature if you can't find this) Do you have a usb flash drive big enough?" Now this helped me a little. I managed to install the game onto the computer without the DVD drive, but it is a game that requires the disk to be able to play, so I still need to be able to access the DVD drive in the other computer, which was my original question. I ordered an assembled PC to be built for me. I gave them the specificiation according to whats mentionned in Adobe website. But I was told that one cant have raid controlled 2 hard drives as well as Windows Vista - only server will work with raid controlled hard drives - windows vista and graphics wont work. Is that true ? But Adobe has suggested Vista Ultimate and raid controlled hard drives be installed in the PC. So it must be possible Finally, I was given the below mentionned configuration, but the cost is a bit on the higher side. Where can I cut costs ? Is this particular motherboard needed . Open Question: Laptop Kills Our Home Network?

I have a linksys WRT54G router with a desktop computer and three laptops that connect to it. Everything works fine on the network unless the third laptop is connected to the wireless network, at which point all three laptops and even the desktop computer are unable to access anything on the internet and simply receive a "the connection to the server was reset while the page was loading" error from firefox. It's not just firefox either, games and IE are unable to connect as well. I was wondering how to fix this and also how could a wireless connection remove the ability of the land-lined desktop to connect? Happy Fourth and thank you! more
