We bought a Kenmore Elite refridgerator last weekend and I'm not sure if it's operating louder than it should or not. Our old fridge was 15 years old and didn't run silent by any means. But, if the new one is any indication of advances, they haven't made much progress over the years. While running, there is a noticable harmonic fan sound that resonates out into other rooms, not just air but a tone. It's not the obnoxious kind of sound that clearly indicates a problem, more like what sounds to me like a loud computer fan. I'm a little sensitive to ambient noise, so I may be a bad judge of what's normal, but I can hear it over the television when there is just dialogue going on or something fairly soft. I guess I'll get used to it, but I thought I'd get a feel for how loud these latest fridges are. When I open the (side by side) freezer door, I can hear the sound coming out of the spot the cool air enters from the compressor. I was expecting a quieter running fridge, rather than just a new, higher pitched sound to try to block out, so I'm a bit disappointed. And the water dispenser is dripping a few drops every few hours, but we have a service call on that. It may not be a big deal either, but it's under warranty so I want to be sure. I guess I'll ask about the operating noise too while the guy is here.Another thought, could I open up the back of the fridge and line the inside walls around the compressor with a soundproofing material? If there's ventalation, I can cut the openings so those aren't hampered. Any other considerations I should take? more

Hey, I'm looking to get into using air tools to make some of my jobs a little easier and faster problem is, I live in an apt and I do not have a garage, and living in san francisco, it makes working on my car a hassle with space constraints. Now. I have a spot to work on it, problem is I want to stay low-key, air compressors (or the ones I've heard) are much too loud to be used without being excessively noticed. Then I noticed portable air tanks would a 10-11gal compressed air tank be sufficent for most jobs? can anyone speak out on this? or if there's an almost silent air tank that's semi-portable I'm all for it. thanks for the advice.It wouldn't be a compressor. just an air tank that can be refilled. more

Resolved Question: Why is my air conditioning vent constantly blowing?

I have a central air conditioner that cools fine. When I raise the temperature setting I can hear the unit outside click off yet when I place my hand in front of an inside vent I can still feel some air blowing. When I look outside the unit is silent and the fan on top is not spinning so I feel that the unit is off. Why does it seem air is still coming from my vents inside? Can it be a draft from them or is another fan perhaps still running even if the compressor is not? Even when I manually turn the until "off" on the thermostat I can still feel air blowing.
